Since the 1960s the sport of motocross has developed and from the beginning O'NEAL has been one of the pioneers and innovators of motocross clothing. Jim O'NEAL was a motocross rider during the birth and early growth of the sport. Jim was driven by the need to help his fellow bikers and himself get more out of the bike with equipment designed specifically for their needs. These same ideals inspired Jim to enter the mountain bike market in Europe and the United States in the late 1980s.

From the beginning, product development has been a central part of O'NEAL's philosophy. The types of motorcycles and bikes that people were riding and the tracks they chose to explore heavily influenced O'NEAL products.

O'NEAL's first foray into mountain biking dates back to the 1980s with the launch of specific MTBs: clothing, helmets and accessories. The sport was growing and there was a real need for riders to push themselves and their bikes further.

O'NEAL's dedication to MTB sport and product development has been hugely successful and the Oneal brand is proud to say that he has helped grow and evolve the sport. Today, the company focuses on Downhill and Freeride, staying true to its roots.
